MovenotsKnown Issues with WindowsRealOnePlayer, Internet Explorer and the Blank Page of No Video Users who have .avi files associated with RealOne Player rather than with Windows Media Player may experience difficulty viewing the movelets in Internet Explorer. They may see a blank page with no video screen, or a small grey box that doesn't do anything. Solution: These instructions were written by me based on experience. They have been known to work with Windows XP and RealOne Player v.9, but are not guaranteed to work for all versions of Windows or RealOne Player or when it's raining. Open RealOne Player, select Tools/Preferences and uncheck .avi files, then click OK. Check that .avi files are now associated with Windows Media Player by opening Windows Explorer, selecting Folder/Options and clicking the File Types tab. AVI should be associated with Windows Media Player. If not, select AVI by left-clicking, then click the Change button. Under "Recommended Programs", select Windows Media Player and click OK. NB: It is important not to skip the RealOne Player step. If you do, ROP will simply change the file association back first chance it gets. Alternative solution: Download Firefox. Internet Explorer and the Blank Video Screen Internet Explorer users may find that the individual movelet page appears to load, but the video screen is blank, the "Done" message has appeared, and nothing is happening. This is more likely to happen to dial-up users. It is very likely that the movelet is loading slowly in the background. Nothing will indicate this except its sudden decision to start playing several minutes later, usually while you're out making a cup of tea. Solution: Wait. Make a cup of tea. June 8th 2005: These are all the issues that have been raised so far. This page will be updated if and when more problems (and, we hope, their solutions) become known. If you experience a problem that is not addressed here, feel free to email support at Alternate Species. We will try to look into and resolve any issues that are raised.
